Sex and gender
What is the difference between the concept of sex and the concept of gender? What is the relevance of this distinction to Psychologists? What does it mean to say that “gender identities are constructed” (M p264)?
The difference between the concept of sex and the concept of gender is sex is biological and gender is social (cultural).
The relevance of this distinction to psychology is that gender can be looked at completely different from sex. Psychologist see gender due to a social construction when that isn't the case. Gender is expressing who you truly are. Compared to sex, psychologist see sex as more of a casual perspective.
"Gender identities are constructed" Hearing this, it all depends on the individual. If an individual knows that there gender is female even though there sex is male, their gender construction is going to be feminine. Their going to dress feminine and their mannerisms are as well feminine so society knows that this certain individuals gender is female and not male.
