Social constructionism is an approach that is used to explain the socially created nature of social life. It helps explain social reality and create "norms" in which people use as a guideline of how they should act in the world. Inter-group conflict is a social construction because every groups has a certain way they do things and a certain set of rules that they follow (Sayyeds wearing black turbans for example). For this reason there is conflict because not all groups have the same set of rules and will immediately understand the implications of parts of their social world (Sayyeds vs hindu- different social norms). In terms of race and religion for examples, for some people it is their social norm, they have been constructed, to dislike anyone who is different then them. Another point is that conflict can be caused by disagreements from group to group and culture to culture. Social constructions are supposed to be analyzed within a specific society because the "norms" or constructions only apply in that culture. This causes disagreements because socially things are very different all over the world-- Muslims and women's rights, racism and black lives matter in the US are prominent ones currently happening.
It is important to understand the social constructions of each culture and understand the conflicts that arise from this in psychology. This is because even in psychology the forward progression in the understanding of psychology has involved conflict that was socially constructed. Different schools have been the dominant ones at different times in history and this has been due largely to the social context of the time-- how prominent region was at the time, wars provided different look of human behavior. In addition to this, in the field of psychology it is always important to know the WHY- why is conflict happening within and outside of groups. It helps us to better understand their behaviors and hopefully be able to correctly analyze their behaviors in the correct context to better understand how that specific person or cultures brain works.
