I believe it will not be possible to explain all psychological phenomena in terms of biology. Psychology is a discipline that requires knowledge of both biologically based methods and behavioral work done to learn about our cognitive, developmental, and social functions. Biology can strengthen our knowledge of the mind, but at many times it is the behavioral theories and research that prompt the need for biological research. For example, psychologists can observe specific abnormal behavioral patterns in certain individuals compared to others, and assume what the cause might be based on previous research and the context. This can lead to one of many methods of research, such as the use of a functional MRI (a biological method ) on both the abnormal and normal subjects. This technique can detect changes in a brain's blood flow patterns and which area(s) are affected by this activity the most in the individuals showing abnormal behavior, and can later be used to compare and contrast against the functional MRI of the subjects not showing abnormal behavior. The psychological approach is fundamental to furthering our understanding of the mind and behavior as it leads to more insight, many times from a combined approach, that serves to answer psychological questions which are ultimately the backbone of the "study of the mind".
