Damasio states that neural patterns are constructed according to the brain's own rules, that are achieved for brief periods of time in the multiple sensory and motor regions of the brain. And that the building of these neural patterns are based on the momentary selection of neutrons and circuits engaged by the interaction, and this is where Damasio refers to "building blocks" that exist in the brain, where they are available to be picked up, selected and assembled in particular arrangement. You get to do as you please with the pieces, you along with the brain because it has component pieces for exert sensory modality, get to arrange and construct anything you want. The goal of the building is to create images in which affect our experience and interactions we engage with within ourselves, and with others in different situations.
