Growing up we are all told to go to school and sometimes even forced. In elementary school I was more in school then I was not. But when it came to high school I had more freedom to choose if I want to go to class or if I want to stay home because in high school I was given the option of taking the bus and I can control when I need to leave and if I want to go. Despite knowing my attendance is going to directly effect my grades. Then coming into post secondary it is possible to not go to class at all and still pass. From going to school for almost my whole life I have been conditioned to believe school is a good thing in life. I have been so used to the same procedures that when I do not attend class it makes me feel guilty and as if I did not fulfil my duties of the day. This is part of the western culture to go to school and graduate get a job and go on in your career till you retire. This is the norm and it is expected. It is also apart of the meaning system. We are taught if we do not go to school we will not be productive members of society which will make us worthless. I could have not gone to school and started a mediocre job with mediocre pay. In reality I probably would have been financially stable. But I am conditioned to believe school is what will give you a good salary, the more money the better off you are. I had all these freedoms but I still chose to continue on the normal growing path if an individual of our society. I choose to be with the norms of society because if I did not I would have felt guilty and as if I was not a good person.
