Classical conditioning can be described as a stimulus that is triggered from a certain event, an example of this is a dog salivating at the sound of a bell, knowing it will get food. Classical conducting may be used to treat alcoholism by pairing a negative stimuli to the event, in this case we can pair a negative stimulus to an alcoholic drinking. For example, the negative stimuli can be a shock every time the person drank. in effect, the patient would always think about getting shocked when wanting to have a drink and to avoid the shock they would stop drinking.
