Damasio mentions that organisms need specific emotions to stay alive and survive. Homeostasis is a psychological and physiological state of stability. In physiological context, homeostasis is fairly easy to identify because, with few exceptions, the body has standard requirements like food, water and rest. Damasio states that some organisms need emotions such as fear, shock, and hunger. An example of this can be- coming inside a warm place from a cold winter day and you’re hungry – you coming inside a warm temperature place satisfies your body temperature and eating food would satisfy your hunger, when you have accomplished doing those two things you would have reached a point of homeostasis.
