Damasio writes "The brain's body-furnished, body-minded mind is a servant of the whole body", as a statement based on his belief that the mind has a significant purpose in relation to the body, which is to "tell the story" of the many events and experiences of the body through internal and external factors, and thus optimize the life of the organism that the mind and body is part of. Thus as a result of this statement, Damasio does not think the mind should just be considered in relation to the brain, but also in relation to the body because the mind exists to furnish the body with contents, and is also capable of performing useful tasks that are beneficial for the body's survival.
