Pre-reflection in Butt and Damasio Explain in what way the ideas presented by Damasio about emotion are consistent (or not) with Butt’s claim that “Our connection with others is primarily pre-reflective.” (p. 137)
When Butt claims that "our connection with others is primarily pre-reflective" he means that humans often do not have a choice who they are attracted to either sexually or in any other social scenarios. He explains that feelings are out "sensory contact with the world" which is quite in line with what Damasio says about feelings.
Butt's idea of pre-reflection is mainly in line with Damasio's view of feelings because they both believe that a particular feeling about something... either an action or a person or activity are based mainly on biological hardwiring. They both explain there is little control on our reaction to things because things we feel depend on how our brain and sensory regions.
