Intersubjectivity is defined as how individuals come to understand one another and to some extent share an understanding of the world. This closely correlates to attachment theories, as relationships are founded on emotional ties of comfort and support. When individuals engage with one another, they construct a shared view of the world as their conjoint realities are experienced in real time. When we share experiences with one another, we view that individual more like ourselves, we project certain conceptions created about the individual onto their body, and can come to understand the individual more through self-disclosure. Attachment is an adaptive behaviour that was developed to enhance the chance of survival of the human species. It is social selection that is engaged in universally throughout time.
