Degrees of freedom, among the many ways individuals are free to act in depending on their situations. However humans tend to restrict themselves despite the many ways that are available for them to perform certain tasks. This is often due to the social/societal norm, which tends to affect many individuals from their day-to-day life.
For instance, when there is a big line up waiting for the next bus the norm is to get in the line and to wait for your turn to come in order to enter the bus. However among the many ways is that one can enter the bus by skipping the line, by entering it from the back door as people are exiting the bus and so on. This will definitely bring attention to this individual who is not abiding the norm of the society, which can also lead to frustration, and anger of the driver and the people waiting in the line.To avoid facing any consequences or judgment the individual will limit their degrees of freedom by just lining up and being patient.
Individuals often tend to fit into the norm of the society to avoid attention and therefor limit their degrees of freedom.
