The Placebo effect could help to analyze the children’s performances in the second game, assuming that they are aware of what their parents did to their socks and underwear. The child who knows that his parents did not wash his clothes believes that he has good luck during the next few games, and his mentality turns positive, affecting his performance quality overall. Meanwhile the second child, who knows his clothes were washed, believes he has lost his good luck, and according to the Placebo effect, is therefore more likely to perform worse because of his negative mentality. However, if the case is that the children are unaware of whether their parents washed their clothes or not, the Placebo effect would not necessarily apply, as the children could choose to believe whatever they want. Based on the circumstances, the Placebo effect is a good way to analyze the situation, as long as they are aware of what their parents did to their clothes.
