According to Freud, the id represents our most deep desires as human beings such as aggression desires, love desires, sexual desires. Our superego represents our internalized morals implied to us by our society. Our ego is our median. It is what balances the id and superego. If a person has a strong ego, then the will lean towards their superego and follow rules and morals instead of their desire. If the ego is weak, then the person will lean towards their id rather than their superego. An example of a weak ego will be rape. As a human being, their deepest desire is to be with the individual they are attracted to even though the feeling is not mutual, if the person follows their id rather than their superego, they will break the moral boundaries of not respecting the other person's wishes of not wanting to be with that person. A strong ego, will make the person lean towards their superego and respect the other person's wishes and not commit inappropriate behaviour.
