In the behaviourist view of learning, the individual learns through a gradual process of conditioning through the simple process of a stimulus and a response- punishment and reward. For Vygotsky, the process of learning is described in a more sophisticated way through the use of "scaffolding" by a social group aiding the individual in learning and development by introducing different concepts. Vygotsky also integrates the idea of the Zone of Proximal Development, the idea that each individual has a framework of learning that they are more comfortable with from which to build these new techniques and concepts.
