Behaviouristic approach to learning is individualistic while Vygotsky's approach is social. Behaviourists believed that environment is promoting learning of the individual by conditioning through reward and punishment and saw this as a one-way relationship. From Vygotsky prospective, the environment can actively participate in individual's development. This participation allows individuals to realize the potential which is not possible to realize by the individual without support. Vygotsky saw the relationship between individual and environment as collaborative and not one-way, as behaviorists did.
