Behaviourists would predict that when the infant monkey was frightened, they would approach the wired mother because she provided food. The infant monkey depended on the wired mother in order to survive.
Every time the infant monkey was hungry, it would approach the wired mother for food and would keep coming back due to the positive feedback of operant conditioning whereas the cloth mother did not provide anything material wise which resulted in negative feedback.
But it so happened to turn out that the infant monkey turned to the cloth mother for comfort and protection when frightened.
Therefore it contradicted the behaviourists theory of learning when the infant monkey flee to the cloth mother that didn't provide anything rather than the wired mother that provided food for the infant.

Nice explanation and logical way of putting. Can you please how does the concept of Operant Conditioning fit in this example.
