Part A- Self-reports may be reliable but it does lack validity for a number of reasons. The participant may not give a true response, instead respond in a way that makes him/her look better. Also, answers may be exaggerated or biased depending on how the participant is feeling.
Part B- In my opinion, although all of these methods have their own strengths and weaknesses, I believe that the self-report method is a great way of conducting research. It might be the case that our words will at times contradict our actions, however it will be accurate most of the time. I think that the best observer that can predict our behavior and attitude is ourselves. Our words may not always reflect our actions, but I believe it is pretty accurate for the most part. Let’s say a close friend or relative was going to assess you, depending on your relationship with that one particular person, they will know certain things about you but may not have a complete picture of you. For example, a parent may not necessary know their child’s attitude or view about a particular point and that can result in an incorrect response.
